Getting started with Unobits
Find your way around
The sidebar groups, the pills under each route, the command palette, global search, peeks and the keyboard shortcuts that move you fastest.
On this page
Unobits is one app with many areas. This page explains how it is laid out, how to move between areas quickly, and why your screens may not match someone else's.
The layout#
- Sidebar on the left: the modules, grouped by what they are for. Your group names and module names may differ from these docs if your workspace uses its own vocabulary.
- Pills along the top of each module: its sub-pages, such as Overview · Opportunities · People · Companies · Activities · Segments · Insights · Settings in CRM. Some pills open a further row of sub-pages (Finance → Reports → Books, for example).
- Header: global search, the command palette button and notifications. Your settings open from the sidebar, or with Alt+Shift+S.
- Donna's flyout: available from any page. See Where to find Donna.
Sidebar groups#
| Group | What lives there |
|---|---|
| Home | Overview (your landing page), Dashboard (cards you arrange yourself), Setup (workspace readiness) |
| Communications | Inbox, Chat, Email, Socials |
| Workspace | Projects, Whiteboards, Timeline, Calendar, Files, Office |
| Clients & Business | CRM, Reach, Finance, Inventory |
| System & Engine | Automations, Digital Twin, Web Elements, Integrations |
| External | Client Portals, Team Portal |
| Organization | Admin |
| Support | Help Center |
The sidebar shows only what your workspace uses and what you are allowed to open. Turn on Settings → Workspace → Advanced sidebar to see every module in one tree. Frequently used and pinned areas appear in Quick Access.
Search and the command palette#
- Press / anywhere outside a text field to jump to global search. It finds records across the modules you have access to — see Search.
- Press Alt+Shift+K (Option+Shift+K on a Mac), or select the command button in the header, to open the command palette and jump to any area or run an action by typing.
- Esc closes the palette.
Jump straight to a module#
These shortcuts work anywhere outside a text field:
| Shortcut | Goes to |
|---|---|
| Alt+Shift+H | Home |
| Alt+Shift+I | Inbox |
| Alt+Shift+C | Chat |
| Alt+Shift+E | |
| Alt+Shift+R | Calendar |
| Alt+Shift+O | Office (notes) |
| Alt+Shift+N | Notifications panel |
| Alt+Shift+S | Settings |
| Alt+Shift+A | Add-ons |
| Alt+Shift+F | Focus the search box |
The full list, including shortcuts inside Whiteboards and the editors, is in Keyboard shortcuts.
Addresses and deep links#
Every area has its own address, and your organization's name is part of it:
https://unobits.app/<your-organization>/clients/crm/opportunitiesYou can bookmark any page and share links with teammates. A link only opens for someone who belongs to the organization and has access to that area. Older addresses (for example /chat or /web-elements) still redirect to their current location. See the App URL reference.
Why your screen may look different#
Two people in the same workspace can see different things because of:
- Permissions — someone without View Finances never sees Finance in the sidebar.
- Add-ons — each person chooses optional modules for their own sidebar.
- Plan — a few features, such as team chat and the social inbox, need Pro or above.
- Vocabulary — the workspace's words replace the defaults everywhere.
And two workspaces can look very different because each is configured for its own business. How Unobits adapts to your business explains the rules.
