Run a client engagement
Set up a project for a client, keep internal and client-visible conversation apart, share plans and files through their portal, track time and bill for it.
On this page
Run one client engagement end to end: a project linked to the client, a conversation that keeps internal talk separate from what the client sees, a portal for the client, tracked time, and an invoice.
Step by step#
Create the project and link the client#
Create the project and link it to the client’s CRM record, from the project’s Links or the record’s Work tab. The client’s record then shows the project. See Projects.
Keep two conversations#
In the project conversation, post team talk as Internal only and anything for the client as Shared with client. The client never sees internal messages. See Collaboration.
Give the client a portal#
In Client portals, send the client their setup link and share the files they need. Check what they will see with Live Inspector first. For a portal scoped to just this project, use the portal console with the Project type.
Track time#
Log time against the project’s tasks with a timer or by hand, marking it billable or not. See Time tracking.
Watch the costs#
The project’s Costs tab adds up logged hours at the labour rate, materials and bills against what the work was sold for. See Job costing.
Invoice#
Create the invoice from the client’s CRM record or Finance, with lines for the work. Billable hours are not turned into invoice lines automatically yet — use your logged time as the basis. See Invoice to payment.
