Close the month in Finance

Import statements, explain every line, reconcile each account, review aging and the P&L, and close the period so nothing can be posted into it.

Updated 2 November 2026

At the end of each month: get every bank line into Finance, explain each one, prove the balances agree, review, and lock the period so nothing can change it afterwards.

Close the month#

Import every account’s statement#

In Finance → Money → Import a statement, upload each account’s CSV. Lines already recorded are recognised and skipped, so overlapping statements are safe.

Explain every line#

Each imported line is matched to a payment you recorded, settles an open invoice or bill of the same amount, or is booked to an account. Rules book recurring lines, such as bank fees, for you.

Reconcile each account#

Start a reconciliation, enter the statement’s end date and closing balance, and record anything listed as recorded, not at the bank yet or at the bank, not explained. When everything is explained and the balance agrees to the cent, it closes.

Review#

Check Cash owed to you and Cash you owe for anything late, and the Profit and loss and Balance sheet for anything unexpected. Fix mistakes with journal entries.

Close the period#

In Books → Periods, define the month and close it. Any posting dated inside a closed period is refused.

See Bank accounts and reconciliation and Reports and books.
